Styles of Custom Flags
Along with a variety of shapes, flags can be made using many different finishing techniques and styles. The flag should be created based on how and when you plan to use your flag. Consider the following options:
- Single/reverse or double-sided: Single/reverse is the “industry standard” way to finish a flag; your logo or artwork reads correctly on one side, and is mirrored on the backside. Double-sided flags are two flags sewn back to back with a liner in the middle
- Finishing technique: Choose digital print or dye sublimation for sharp details, or appliqued and embroidered designs for a timeless appearance. Our experts can help you choose a finishing technique for your project.
- Material: Nylon is the go-to material for most custom flags, but other options are available depending on technique, such as embroidery on twill, or appliqued polyester.
- Heading or Pole Pocket: Choose a heading and grommets for outdoor flags 6x10' and under, or use webbing and D-rings for larger flags. Pole hems (also called pockets or sleeves) are usually used on indoor flags, which also usually feature fringe around the border of the flag.
Did you know?
- Appliqued flags tend to last longer outdoors compared to their digital print counterparts.
- Webbing and D-rings (or rope hem heading and thimbles) are used on large flags for added strength.
- Guidons are typically used for military and law enforcement ceremonies.
- Swallowtails and burgees are primarily used in nautical settings.
